Mooseheart and Food for Health teens learn first hand about ‘farm to table’!

What a great day to be on the farm despite the stormy weather! Today the tomato plants were tall enough to start staking and more sunflowers were blooming. The best part of the day was learning how to make pasta with olive oil, garlic and herbs from volunteer and Master Gardener, Penny Newkirk. After gardening and just before the rain came both volunteers and students made their way into the building. Everyone gathered around a table in seats and attentively listened to Penny. She introduced and passed around basil, chives, oregano, parsley and thyme from the garden, then prepared the simple recipe. Afterward, everyone proudly enjoyed eating the herbed pasta with strawberry – basil water, knowing their hard work in the garden contributed.
